a place of undiscovered stories ; an area of misconstrued people
Eskinitas or Alleyways are small, hidden passageways that are frequently found adjacent to towering structures; as a result, they are often dreaded by people. They fail to recognize why communities can still be found in such strange places. Often feared, and shed in bad light, due to its dark nature, people immediately associate Eskinitas with danger and violence because of the atrocities that take place in it.
Eskinita is a photo documentary project that explores life around such unusual places. Walking towards the Eskinita, one would be greeted by a huge poster beside its entrance reminding pedestrians to be cautious about the area due to the crimes that frequently occur there. A passerby’s instinct, including the artist’s as well, is to avoid it. But as one gives it a look from the outside, the only thing that one could make out of it were families gathering around and children playing. This sparked curiosity as to what their thoughts are about people that fear their homes and made the artist want to tell their stories. To make photographs that will shift the existing negative perceptions of the public towards Eskinitas through showing the community, and life that they were able to build in a narrow, confined space
